Aquaponic Garden

IMG_1967An aquaponic garden is a system that uses a gravel garden and a tilapia fish pond. The water from the pond (including fish excrement) is pumped into the garden, fertilizing the plants organically. Also, fresh vegetables and fish provide families with a healthier diet. The gravel works as a filter to clean the water before it enters the pond again. Our current aquaponic garden uses a solar panel to run the pump. Aquaponic gardens are fairly easy to manage but are several hundred dollars including the solar panel, so we use our prototype to give people new ideas of ways to garden and dedicate more time and effort to the community gardens and tilapia ponds.
